Designed for Children between the ages of 5 and 16, our Young Lifesavers Club is a fantastic way for your children to learn more about how to stay safe in and around water. Our lifesavers become part of the wider LASAR family, and learn a vast range of skills which are designed to make them more confident in the water and to help them know what to do should they, their friends or their family get into trouble near water. Our Coaches are all trained Rescue Technicians and Responders, who are also qualified Royal Life Saving Society Instructors and are able to teach your children a range of skills from who to call in an emergency at the coast or on inland waters, to spotting different types of casualties and basic rescue techniques such as shout and throw rescues.

The syllabus has been designed to coach children through three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold which have been created to give them the foundations to go on to study lifeguarding at a more advanced level as they get older. As this syllabus has been designed by the Royal Lifesaving Society, and is taught by our very own, qualified lifesavers, we’re able to provide children with an exciting and interactive learning experience that will help them to become more confident in their own abilities, stronger swimmers and more aware of the dangers of open water.

Lancaster Area Search & Rescue is also a Royal Lifesaving Society member, this ensures we have access to the latest training and teaching resources in order to provide the very best water safety education to our young lifesavers.

In addition to this, our coaches are able to provide additional teaching and supplement the Rookie Lifeguard syllabus with extra activities designed to encourage your child’s critical thinking skills, decision making skills and communication skills, all whilst having lots of fun and learning about water safety at a more advanced level, including helping older children work towards vocational lifeguarding qualifications through the RLSS National Lifesaving Academy.

Interested in joining?

Your child should be at least 5 years of age before joining our Young Lifesavers Club. They must also already hold their 25m swimming badge and must be able to confidently swim 25m. Our classes are not swimming lessons, therefore a basic understanding of swimming and a good level of water confidence is also required in order to give your child the best chance of moving up through the syllabus.

Our Young Lifesavers programme is taught at several venues in the Lancaster area. Please contact the appropriate venues for booking enquiries:
